Shipped Home

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

A man and his ever-nagging wife went on a holiday to Jerusalem. While they were there the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, “You can have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land, for $150.” The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home. The undertaker asked, “Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only $150?” The man replied, “Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead. I just can’t take that chance.”

Mail Just Got a Whole Lot Better

Name: Windows Live Mail Price: Free

Hotmail has been in need of an upgrade for years. It’s interface is slow, and it is overcrowded with features that nobody uses or can use. Thankfully, Microsoft has developed a new interface for Hotmail, to be called Windows Live Mail. It offers a brand new interface that is fast and reliable.

Windows Live Mail looks like an online, cut down version of Outlook Express, with features from Microsoft Outlook (like a calendar). How’s that for a summary? With WLM, you can drag emails and right-click them. It’s very simple, but it does lack a few useful elements. The main reason I used Hotmail was so that I could check my home emails from anywhere in the world. There are ways to go around this, however Hotmail was the best. Windows Live Mail is still in early stages and there is much room for improvement.

Because Windows Live Mail has not been developed to meet expectations, we will advise a rating as the service improves.

Clever Priest

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

A woman pasenger on a plane found herself sitting next to a priest and said to him, “Excuse me, Father, could I ask a favour?”

“Of course my child, what can I do for you?”

“Here is the problem. I bought myself a sophisticated hair-remover gadget for which I paid a lot of money. I have gone over the declaration limits and I am worried that they’ll confiscate it at customs. Do you think you could hide it under your cassock?”

“Of course my child, but you must realise that I cannot lie.”

“Father, you have such an honest face I’m sure they won’t ask you questions,” she said.

The aircraft arrived at its destination. When the priest presented himself to customs he was asked if he had anything to declare. “From the top of my head to my sash, I have nothing to declare my son,” he replied. Thinking this reply was strange, the customs officer asked, “And from the sash down, what do you have? The Priest replied, “I have there a marvellous little instument designed for use by women, but which has never been used. The customs officer laughed and said “Next!”

Name: Windows Live Messenger 8.0 Price: Free

As part of Microsoft’s Windows Live suite, an update to the popular MSN Messenger will soon become available. Windows Live Messenger 8.0 includes all the features of its predecessor’s - and more. But on top of everything, like in the early days, Messenger once again be given the title ‘user friendly.’ How is this possible? Let’s find out.

Over the years since MSN Messenger came into being, more and more features have been added, which made the instant messaging solution very powerful. The problem was that it was too much to handle. The program looked overloaded; there was too much to contain. Finally, Microsoft have taken a stride in the right direction. With Windows Live Messenger (WLM), a simple interface has been created that looks remotely like Messenger 4.7 (The “Windows XP” Version). Although the program has many features including chatting through voice and video, playing games and the like, it has now been organised to make life easier.

Version 8 is Messenger at its best. It includes great features and additions, yet it is somewhat tidy and user friendly. We have decided to give WLM a rating of four out of five; there’s always room for improvement, but we can’t complain.

Windows Live Messenger is currently only available by invitation. We have a few dozen invitations available. If you would like to take advantage of this great tool, please let us know in the comments section.

Update 19/06/06: Windows Live Messenger has come out of beta and has been released to the general public. You are encouraged to download it from get.live.com.
